Dental bridges are dental restorations that replace multiple consecutive missing teeth. They “bridge” the gap in your smile to restore the function and look of teeth. Traditional dental bridges are typically anchored by tooth crowns that cap off teeth on either side of the prosthetic tooth. However, dental bridges may also be supported by dental implants.
Dr. Haim Fedida is an experienced implant dentist who helps patients replace their missing teeth with restorative dentistry services. He can provide you with a fixed dental bridge or a removable one. Additionally, Dr. Fedida often provides fixed bridges held in place by dental implants. Compared to removable bridges, fixed bridges require less maintenance and restore full function to your bite. Dental Bridge in Jackson Heights, NY
Receiving a removable or fixed dental bridge takes several visits to our office. First, Dr. Fedida will administer a dental exam to determine the status of your oral health. He will also review your dental/medical history and any other concerns you may be having. Next, he will create a dental bridge treatment plan if he believes a dental bridge for your missing teeth is the best treatment option for you. This plan can include everything from your dental exam results to the cost of your dental bridge treatment.
After you approve the plan, we can begin treatment. Dr. Fedida will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by removing a portion of the enamel. He then takes impressions of the teeth for precise treatment. Our dentist will then place dental crowns over the abutment teeth, or the natural teeth on the sides of the tooth gap. The bridge hardware holds prosthetic teeth in place of the missing teeth.
Implant-supported Dental Bridge
An implant-supported dental bridge is a restorative dental treatment option that Dr. Fedida uses to permanently replace missing teeth. It involves the use of dental implants to support a bridge that fills the gap that one or more missing teeth leave behind.
A dental bridge, in general, is a prosthetic device that consists of one or more artificial teeth (or pontics) anchored between two dental crowns. Traditionally, these crowns sit on the adjacent natural teeth to hold the bridge in place. However in an implant-supported dental bridge, instead of relying on natural teeth for support, dental implants support them instead. are surgically placed into the jawbone.
Dental implants are titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots. They are biocompatible and fuse with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. Once the implants fully integrate with the bone, they provide a stable foundation for attaching the dental bridge.
Implant-supported dental bridges offer several benefits for oral health. Firstly, they prevent neighboring teeth from shifting into the gap left by missing teeth. This helps maintain proper alignment and bite function. Secondly, they help preserve bone density in the jaw by stimulating bone growth through chewing forces. This can prevent further deterioration of facial structure and maintain your youthful look.
Overall, implant-supported dental bridges from Fedida Family Dentistry and Dental Spa provide a durable and long-lasting solution for individuals with missing teeth. Although implant bridges offer a longer treatment time, they ultimately last longer than removable dental bridges. Dr. Fedida can examine your oral health to determine if you are a candidate for an implant-supported dental bridge.
Post-Op Dental Bridge Care
Immediately following your dental bridge treatment, avoid eating sticky or hard foods. When flossing, do not pull up on the floss. Pull the floss out from the side of the crown. You may experience temperature and pressure sensitivity. However, this should subside a few weeks after the placement of the final restoration. We recommend that patients take mild pain medications. If you have severe pain after your treatment, call our office immediately for emergency care.
