Porcelain Veneers Jackson Heights, NY

Dental veneers can close gaps between teeth, brighten stained teeth, or cover chipped teeth. They are beneficial for patients who have damaged or stained teeth. Dr. Haim Fedida provides porcelain veneers at Fedida Family Dentistry and Dental Spa in Jackson Heights, NY. As a cosmetic dental option, dental veneers help enhance the look of the tooth enamel and hide flaws.

A Porcelain Veneer is a thin, custom-made shell of porcelain that covers the front surface of teeth. Dr. Haim Fedida typically uses them to improve the look of teeth, but he can also cover and protect teeth from damage. Because our dental veneers are made of porcelain ceramic, they easily blend in with the look of your real teeth.

Treatment with Porcelain Veneers

First, Dr. Fedida will review your budget, concerns, and goals. Then he will examine your mouth. He will take all the information he needs and use it to create a custom treatment plan. A porcelain veneer treatment plan usually spans about 2 to 6 weeks.

To begin treatment, Dr. Fedida will remove a small amount of the tooth enamel from the affected tooth or treatment area. This will ensure that the veneers adhere to the teeth very well. Then, he will take an impression or scan of your teeth and then send it off for processing.

The process typically takes anywhere from two weeks to six weeks, depending on the lab that processes the order. In the mean time, Dr. Fedida may provide you with a temporary veneer or set of veneers. Once the dental lab sends us the final product, we will call you back into our dental office where Dr. Fedida will install your new porcelain veneer into your mouth.

He will check the fit and color of the veneers before permanently bonding them to your teeth. He uses a bonding material or adhesive in order to attach the porcelain veneer onto your tooth surface. This process should only take about five minutes per tooth, and can be done using either light or no anesthesia.

Porcelain Veneers Post-treatment Care

We recommend that patients stay away from hard foods that can damage the veneers. Although rare, some beverages such as coffee, tea, and fruit juice can cause staining. It typically takes two weeks for patients to fully adjust to their dental veneers. After this period, veneers should feel comfortable and just like natural teeth.

You can take care of your veneers as if they are real tooth enamel. Use a toothbrush with a soft brush head with water and toothpaste. Brush gently and in a circular motion for about two minutes. You should brush at least twice a day to keep your teeth clean and prevent tartar buildup near the veneers. Also use dental floss to clean between your teeth and behind your veneers on both sides of the teeth every day.

Porcelain Veneer FAQs

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

Dental veneers require no special maintenance to look and feel like natural tooth enamel. They can treat crooked, cracked, misshapen, stained, chipped, or broken teeth. Veneers can also close small gaps between teeth. As a longer-lasting alternative to dental bonding, porcelain veneers provide durability and balance to the smile.

Do veneers change color?

Veneers consist of a stain-resistant and durable material. Once we color-match your veneers to your natural teeth, they should remain the same color for years. However, if they begin to stain, your dentist can’t treat them using traditional teeth whitening methods. You will need to replace the discolored veneers.

Do veneers get cavities?

No, veneers can’t get cavities. However, your natural tooth is still under the veneer. The natural tooth structure is still susceptible to tooth decay. Make sure that you keep up with a quality oral healthcare routine. Brush and floss like you would normally, and make sure you’re visiting for your bi-annual checkups. Our office makes sure that everything is still in good condition.

Do veneers break easily?

While veneers are very thin, they don’t break easily. They’re made of extremely durable dental ceramic material. It isn’t as strong as your natural tooth structure, but it comes very close. To avoid risking breaks or chips, try not to bite down on anything hard directly using your veneers. Try to distribute pressure evenly when you bite and chew as well.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers last over 10 years in most cases. As they age, the adhesive used to adhere them to your tooth does weaken over time. After the 10-year mark, you may notice your veneers loosening or falling off. If this happens, contact us immediately to get a replacement veneer.

Am I a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are able to take care of a wide variety of cosmetic dental problems. If you have stained, broken, or misshapen teeth, veneers offer a solution. They can also treat gaps between your teeth as well. You have to be in overall good oral health to get veneers. You also need to be looking for a permanent option. Once you get veneers, you always have to have a restoration, as the natural tooth structure is removed to make room for the veneers.
