At Fedida Family Dentistry & Dental Spa, we incorporate laser dentistry technology into many of our routine procedures. Laser dentistry involves the use of dental lasers to work on and around your soft tissues, sealing off blood vessels as we go, and preventing post-procedure bleeding or discomfort. LANAP, or laser-assisted regeneration, is the only scientifically, research-proven treatment option that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth, and gum tissue reattachment. Learn more about LANAP below.
What is LANAP used for?
LANAP is used as a periodontal treatment option for patients with advanced gum disease. While gum disease in its earliest stages can be treated with a thorough dental cleaning, progressed gum disease requires more invasive treatment to remove bacteria below the gum line. The goal is to quickly remove any bacteria that has piled up in the pockets of your gums to prevent gumline recession and tooth loss.
How does LANAP work?
LANAP is a surgical procedure utilizing a free-running, variable pulsed dental laser. This treatment is typically performed in a dentist’s office under local anesthesia. A tiny laser fiber is inserted between the tooth and the gum, and the infection and disease are cleared away without ever needing to cut the gums. LANAP can target the source of the inflammation without hurting or removing any healthy gum tissue. It can also slow or stop attachment loss and decrease pocket depth while also allowing the body to recover from the chronic infection without the need for scalpel or sutures.
What are the benefits of LANAP?
LANAP treatment offers patients in need of periodontal care more benefits than traditional cut-and-sew surgery methods. Patients can expect less pain, bleeding, sensitivity, gum loss, swelling following the procedure. Patients experience very little downtime following the procedure as well as fewer post-operation infections. LANAP promotes regeneration of supporting gum tissues and allows patients to heal faster and more comfortably than conventional surgery.
